About Aguas Buenas

Founded on 25 May 1838 in the central mountains, north of Cidra and just south of the San Juan sprawl. 24,223 people at the 2020 census.

The springs give it both its name and its nicknames: La Ciudad de las Aguas Claras, city of clear waters, and El Oasis de Puerto Rico. Two others are harder to translate and better left as they are — Los Mulos and Los Ñocos.

Underneath the town runs the Aguas Buenas Cave and Caverns System, now a nature reserve. Above it, coffee plantations carried the economy for most of its history. The Luis A. Ferré plaza anchors the centre and the Fiestas Patronales de Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate run in September. The Tigres play here.

The town has also turned out performers — Joyce Giraud, Miss Puerto Rico 1998, and the actor Ismael Cruz Córdova both come from Aguas Buenas.
