About Ceiba
Founded 7 April 1838 by Luis de la Cruz, on the east coast between Fajardo and Naguabo. 11,307 people at the 2020 census.
It is La Ciudad del Marlin for the fishing. The odder pair of nicknames, Los Come Sopas and Los Sin Sopa — the soup eaters and the ones without soup — are the sort of thing only the town can properly explain.
The Reserva Natural Medio Mundo y Daguao is roughly 95% mangrove. Ceiba State Forest sits inland. Fiestas Patronales de San Antonio de Padua run in June.
The cellist Pablo Casals built a house here at eighty and called it El Pesebre, the manger. The other landmark is the airport, which used to be Roosevelt Roads Naval Station until it closed in 2004 — the base dominated this town for sixty years, and its going reshaped it again.
