About Comerío
Founded 12 June 1826 by Don José Díaz, in the rugged centre-east of the island. 18,883 people at the 2020 census. It is La Perla de Plata, the silver pearl, and Pueblo de los Guabaleros.
Tobacco built it, with coffee and sugar alongside. The Cuevas La Mora sit outside town and have their own festival at the start of June; Las Pailas and the Media Luna park are where people go on a Sunday. Fiestas Patronales del Santo Cristo de la Salud run in August.
The first Methodist church founded in Puerto Rico was established here in 1904. The actress Blanca de Castejón was born in Comerío in 1906.
Hurricane María hit over 4,000 homes in the municipality and destroyed 1,537 of them outright.
