About Las Piedras

An eastern interior town about forty-five minutes from San Juan, established around the turn of the nineteenth century. 35,180 people at the 2020 census — down 9% from a peak of 38,675 in 2010.

It is La Ciudad de los Artesanos, the city of artisans, and the craft tradition is the town's identity.

The Cueva del Indio holds Taíno paintings. El Toro, the highest point of the Sierra de Luquillo, sits on the municipal boundary with Río Grande. Francisco Negrón Park and the Las Piedras Historic Museum are in town.

What pays the bills now is computer and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Hurricane María stripped the roofs from 500 homes here on 20 September 2017.
