About Morovis
Founded 24 January 1818 by Don Juan José de la Torre, in the central mountains. 28,727 people at the 2020 census.
In 1853 cholera swept the island. Morovis was the only municipality it did not reach. Ever since, when something happens everywhere but here, people say la isla menos Morovis — and the town has carried it as a name.
It is also the island's main producer of musical instruments, above all the cuatro. Five cuatros appear on the municipal coat of arms, which tells you how seriously that is taken.
El Puente Colorao, the red bridge on PR-155, went up in 1912. La Patria bakery has been open since 1862. The Cuevas Las Cabachuelas opened to visitors in 2019. After Hurricane María the San Lorenzo barrio was cut off entirely when the river took its bridge.
