About Villalba
Founded 14 February 1917 by José Ramón Figueroa and Walter McJones, on ground settled from 1852. 22,093 people at the 2020 census. It is one of the last municipalities created in Puerto Rico.
It sits in a valley of the Cordillera Central, with Cerro El Bolo at 3,526 feet above it. Ciudad de los Lagos, city of lakes — Toa Vaca and Guayabal. Ciudad del Gandul, city of the pigeon pea, which with coffee is what grows here. Also Ciudad del Cooperativismo.
The factories make aluminium packaging, electronics, nutritional products and medical devices. Toro Negro forest reserve lies above; the Puerto Rico Marathon runs in July, as do the Fiestas Patronales de Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
In February 2019 Villalba formed an energy consortium with four neighbouring municipalities — the first arrangement of its kind on the island. Hurricane María dropped 27.82 inches of rain here.
