About Quebradillas

Founded 6 June 1823 on the northern Atlantic coast, in the karst belt. 23,638 people at the 2020 census. The name means small streams.

It is La Guarida del Pirata, the pirate's hideout, for the ruins and rock carvings at Puerto Hermina and the smuggling that went on along this coast. It is also La Ciudad del Cooperativismo.

Lake Guajataca, two and a half miles long, sits on its boundary, with the Guajataca State Forest above. Fiestas Patronales de San Rafael Arcángel run in October.

In 2017 Hurricane María caused a structural failure at the Guajataca Dam — eight hundred concrete barriers were needed to stabilise it, and roughly 2,200 homes in the municipality were damaged. The private zoo El Arca de Noé ran here for fifty years before closing in 2012.
